The fine print, kept short.

These terms apply when you install or use Scanr, the iOS app made by Giant Mushroom Studio. Installing or using the app means you accept them. If you don't, please don't use the app.

The short version

Use the app for personal, non-commercial cataloguing of your Magic: The Gathering cards.
Card data and images come from Scryfall; respect their terms too.
Scanr is unofficial fan content; not affiliated with or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.
The Pro upgrade is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase. Apple handles billing.
The app is provided as-is. We try our best but can't promise it's perfect.

Licence to use the app

You get a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use Scanr on devices you own or control, subject to the Apple Media Services Terms and these terms. You may not redistribute, resell, sublicence, reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the app's source code, except where Apple's standard licence or applicable law expressly allows it.

Your content

Anything you create inside Scanr — your library, decks, tags, notes — is yours. We never claim ownership of it. If you enable iCloud sync, your content lives in your own private CloudKit database; we cannot see or copy it. If you export your data (CSV, text deck lists), what you do with it after that is up to you.

Acceptable use

Don't use Scanr to:

Attack, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to Scryfall, Apple's services, or any other service the app talks to.
Scrape Scryfall in a way that violates their API terms (Scanr respects their rate limit; please don't try to bypass it).
Distribute, mirror, or rehost the app or its assets.
Pretend Scanr or Giant Mushroom Studio is affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.

In-app purchases

Scanr Pro is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase that unlocks additional features (currently: unlimited decks and tags, private iCloud sync, CSV export). Apple processes the purchase under their Media Services Terms; Scanr never sees your payment details. Restore Purchases is available from the App Store and the Settings tab. Refunds are handled by Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com.

If a Pro feature isn't working for you, please email [email protected] before requesting a refund — we can usually fix it faster than a refund cycle.

Third-party content

Card data and images are provided by Scryfall. Magic: The Gathering, the card frames, and the card text are © Wizards of the Coast LLC. Scanr is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Wizards of the Coast Fan Content Policy. Not approved or endorsed by Wizards. Portions of the materials used are property of Wizards of the Coast.

Card identification accuracy

Scanr identifies cards from camera images using on-device computer vision and Scryfall lookups. Identifications are best-effort and occasionally wrong, especially for damaged cards, low light, alternate art, or basic lands with many printings. The app includes a long-press "Fix Artwork" picker so you can correct any mis-identified printing yourself. Don't rely on Scanr's identifications for tournament, insurance, or trading decisions without verifying.

Prices

USD prices shown in the app are reported by Scryfall and refreshed on pull-to-refresh. They are estimates of market price and may be out of date. Scanr is not a marketplace and does not facilitate sales.

Updates and changes

We may release updates that change features, fix bugs, or improve performance. Some updates may require a more recent iOS version than your device supports. We may also revise these terms; the "Last updated" date above will change and material changes will be surfaced in the app on first launch after the update.

Termination

You can stop using Scanr at any time by uninstalling the app. We may discontinue the app, remove features, or revoke licences if you breach these terms or attempt the misuse listed in "Acceptable use".

Disclaimers

Scanr is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We don't warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that identifications, prices, or sync state will always be correct.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Giant Mushroom Studio will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or trading opportunities arising out of or related to your use of Scanr. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid Apple for Scanr Pro in the twelve months before the claim, or £20, whichever is greater.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If a dispute can't be resolved by emailing us at [email protected], the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
